Volleyball: HSE sweeps Noblesville, goes on to win both North vs. South matches, Heights falls in conference championship

Hamilton Southeastern continued its winning ways late last week,

Last Thursday, the Royals swept Noblesville 25-16, 25-18, 25-16 in a home Hoosier Crossroads Conference match. Lindsey Mangelson blasted 19 kills, with Madison Miles putting down 14 kills. Ava Hunter dished out 34 assists while Kaylyn Christy served three aces.

Christy and Bella Dafforn each collected nine digs. Merritt Sliwa made six blocks, with Hunter making five blocks.

Chloe Macias hit 10 kills for the Millers, with Madison Brown dishing out 23 assists. Piper Endris made 12 digs and Macias had three blocks.

Last Saturday, Southeastern traveled to Noblesville for the North vs. South showdown. The Royals won both matches, starting with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-9 sweep of Franklin Community.

Mangelson hit 15 kills in that match, with Bre Morgan hitting 10. Mangelson also served four aces and Hunter dished out 34 assists. Maye McConnell had 10 digs. Southeastern swept Center Grove 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 in its second match.

The Millers split their North vs. South matches. Noblesville beat Center Grove in five sets, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 13-25, 15-11. Macias blasted 18 kills while Maggie Hall served five aces and collected 20 digs. Brown handed out 41 assists. Lauren Flynn and Ashlynn Turner both made three blocks.

In their second match, the Millers fell to Franklin in four sets, 25-17, 31-29, 24-26, 25-20. Macias had 15 kills and Flynn hit 13 kills. Endris served six aces, with Brown serving five and dishing out 38 assists. Hall had 14 digs and Endris made 13 digs. Turner collected three blocks.

Noblesville got a Monday win over New Palestine in four sets, 26-28, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17. Macias was a force with 20 kills, followed by Flynn with 11. Brown handed out 47 assists. The Millers totaled 20 blocks as a team, with Turner making six, Ella Coppock getting four and Brown making three.

Southeastern improved to 26-2 after the weekend and played at Brebeuf Jesuit on Tuesday. A final score was not available at press time. The Royals host Franklin Central on Thursday to finish conference and regular-season play. Noblesville is 18-8 and hosts Brownsburg Thursday to finish HCC play.

Hamilton Heights won a Tuesday all-county match with Westfield on Tuesday in the Huskies’ Pink Out match.

Heights won 19-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21. Ellie Miller made several blocks for the Huskies, while Hailey Hall had six kills.

Audrey Bassett led the Shamrocks with 18 kills. Kendyl Strack collected 28 digs, Carsyn Comer made three blocks and Izzy Jackson dished out 25 assists.

Last Saturday, Heights played in the Hoosier Conference tournament at Lafayette Central Catholic. The Huskies began with a first-round win over Tipton 25-12, 25-7.

In the semifinals, Heights took on the host Knights and won 25-22, 25-16. That sent the Huskies to the championship, where they fell to Benton Central 27-25, 25-9. Emma Blanton hit 22 kills for the tournament, while Kennedy Cherry made 41 digs.

Heights is 24-4 and plays Marion Thursday for Senior Night. Westfield is 19-8 and hosts Fishers Thursday to finish the HCC and regular seasons.
