Volleyball: ‘Hawks outlast UHS for season’s first win

The Sheridan volleyball team won its first match of the season on Wednesday, outlasting University 25-16, 21-25, 30-32, 25-20, 15-11 in a five-set, all-county match at Hobbs Hall.
Taylor Bates led the way for the Blackhawks, with 20 digs, six kills, five setting assists, four aces and two block assists. Nova Cross helped out with 14 digs, 10 assists and three aces, while Jacquellynne Bates collected a season-high 26 digs.
Lexi Lewin served four aces and Kaiden Wilson had three aces, along with five kills and five solo blocks. Kenzie Garner had 13 digs, seven kills and two block assists.
“We are a very young team and we’ve had a lot of quarantines and other things happen where we’ve not had our entire lineup,” said Sheridan coach Melissa Jump. “We’re still working through some of those things, and the girls are in positions that they may not normally play in.”
Jump said that the win was a “total team effort.”
“It was all teamwork out there, we didn’t get down and we were having run,” said Taylor Bates.
University stats were unavailable at press time.
The Trailblazers host Lebanon tonight, while Sheridan plays its final home game of the season on Monday, hosting Tri-Central.
