The Fishers volleyball team got an early signature win Wednesday, as the Tigers stunned Class 4A No. 3 McCutcheon in four sets at the Tiger Den.
The match scores were 26-24, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21. Fishers had two players reach double digits in kills during the meet: Junior Ava Vickers hit 13 kills and junior Leslie Groff had 12. Another junior, Margo Hernandez, dished out 44 assists. Senior Samantha Perdue led the defense with 11 digs, while junior Janyah Henderson made three blocks.
The victory moves the Tigers to 2-1 for the season. Fishers has won two matches in a row since dropping its opener to Carmel on Saturday.
“I think all of the reasons we won tonight were moments where we successfully did what we’ve been working on since Carmel,” said Tigers coach Steven Peek. “Carmel exposed some things right away in our team, and in four days, the girls have done a job adapting.”
Peek admitted that preparing for the match was difficult, as the Mavericks were without Chloe Chicoine, their best player.
“She’s a phenomenal player and we would loved to have had her play tonight,” said Peek. You want to play against the best and she’s one of them.”
The Tigers are off until Tuesday, when they play at Bishop Chatard.

Carmel dropped its first match of the year on Wednesday, falling to 4A No. 10 Roncalli in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
“The team’s never-quit attitude was not enough to overcome the defensively strong Royals,” said Greyhounds coach Kristine Deem.
Macarty McQueen and Emily Waddell both hit six kills for Carmel, followed by Savanna Rogers with five, Ella Brooks with four and Caroline Yuska with two. Waddell made three blocks, with McQueen and Rogers both getting two. Ella Bostic handed out 23 assists and served four aces, while Brooks also made nine digs.
