With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Velma Louise Tishner (Huyck), who departed this life on March 4, 2025.
Born on July 25, 1928, in Bradley, Wis., Velma was a charismatic woman who brought joy and light into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. A longtime resident of Cicero, her thoughtful and generous nature will be dearly missed by all.
Velma was a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all who entered her home. She had a deep love for nature, often seen working in her yard, planting flowers, feeding her birds, and enjoying the outdoors. In her youth, Velma enjoyed fishing and the family even owned a bait and tackle shop in town, she relished the tranquility and excitement it brought her. She had a passion for dancing and loved taking long walks around Cicero. Velma was also a previous member of the Moose Lodge, a testament to her community spirit and social nature.
Velma is survived by her sons, Michael (“Binny”) Tishner and David (Keri) Tishner; her daughter, Linda (Michael) Johnson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas Tishner; her parents, Robert and Amy Huyck; and her brothers, Robert and Harry Huyck.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Hartley Funeral Homes, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. The funeral service will follow at the same venue at 1 pm. A private graveside will take place at a later date at Cicero Cemetery.
