University’s boys opened play in the Lebanon Tournament with a 93-72 loss to a strong Evansville North squad.
Max McComb led University with 25 points and Bryce Gray and Blake Gray each added 11.
The contest was played at a fast pace with the teams combining for 50 points in the opening quarter. North jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before Bryce Gray hit a three pointer for the Trailblazers. The Huskies led 15-8 before University climbed back in the game. Cooper Cammack scored off an assist from Robert Russell and McComb scored on a tip-in to pull University within 15-12. Brayden Huebner scored on a rebound for North before Bryce Gray hit a pair of three pointers to give University their only lead of the game at 18-17 and force a Huskies timeout with 2:35 left.
The Blazers were within 23-22 with 43 seconds left in the quarter after a Blake Gray foul shot. Cayden Gelhausen scored with five seconds left before Huebner came up with a steal and beat the halftime buzzer with a three pointer for a 28-22 advantage after one.
Blake Gray made an early three in the second stanza before North scored the next seven points for a 35-25 lead and the Huskies led 49-34 at halftime.
The Huskies size advantage continued to wear on the Blazers in the second half and they controlled the game until the final whistle.
McComb and Montgomery Holland led University with six rebounds. Bryce Gray handed out six assists.
University is 3-5 on the season. The Trailblazers will play Indy Metropolitan at 10:00 am today in the consolation bracket and will play their final placement game at 3:30 p.m.
