University started off its weekend in Tennessee Friday with a sweep of two Tennessee teams.
First, the Trailblazers beat Friendship Christian 10-3 in a five-inning game. University got on the board in the second inning, when Jake Hooker nailed a grand slam over the left field fence. In the third inning, Sam Woodward hit a double to score Owen Schellhase, giving University a 5-0 lead.
Seth Hogg stepped up for the ‘Blazers in the fourth inning, smacking a two-run homer into center field. University finished the scoring with three runs in the fifth inning. Hooker drew a bases-loaded walk that sent Woodward home, Mark Hamby scored on Tyler Price’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Jasper Owens got home after Schellhase reached on error.
Schellhase, Hamby and Owens all finished with two hits, with Owens scoring two runs. Schellhase also had a double. Grayson Knight pitched four innings for the win, striking out nine.
In their second game, the Trailblazers beat Forrest 9-6. Forrest scored a run in the top of the first inning, but it was all University after that.
The ‘Blazers scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Hooker led off with a single, Price drew a walk, then Hogg singled both of them home. Zane Kampmeier came in to run for Hogg, and scored when Weber Morse hit a center field double. Morse got home on Schellhase’s RBI groundout.
University added the other five runs in the second game. Hogg blasted a center field home run, also scoring Hooker. Gabe Mervis drew a walk that scored Morse, then Redman and Woodward got home after Mitchell Price reached on error.
Hogg pitched three innings to get the win.
The Trailblazers are 2-0 and play Cannon County and Livingston Academy today.
