Cade Carlson was unhittable on the mound Thursday, while Dawson Estep and Garrett Hill were unstoppable on the base paths.
That sums up University’s 7-0 win over Bethesda Christian in the first semi-final game of Class 1A Sectional 58, which the Trailblazers are hosting at RoundTripper Academy.
Carlson threw a no-hitter, tossing 16 strikeouts along the way. Carlson got the first out of the game on a pop out, then allowed the Patriots their only runner on base after a walk. But after that, Carlson retired the next 20 batters in a row.
University scored its first run in the top of the first inning, when Hill scored after Carlson reached on error. In the second inning, Kolton Stevens got home on Asher Thompson’s RBI groundout, then Brock Moore nailed a triple into right field to send Estep and Hill home.
The Trailblazers ran the score to 5-0 in the fourth inning, with Galyean’s bunt single scoring Estep. In the sixth inning, Estep hit a double, then scored his third run of the game on a wild pitch. Later, Hill got home for his third run of the game, scoring on a passed ball.
University had 10 stolen bases in the game, with Hill stealing four and Estep three.
The Trailblazers are 24-5 for the season. They will play for the Sectional 58 championship at 11 a.m. Monday, taking on the winner of Saturday’s game between Providence Cristo Rey and Indiana School for the Deaf.
