NOBLESVILLE – The Fishers Unified Track team continued its advancement streak Saturday at the Noblesville sectional, which took place at Beaver Materials Field.
The Tigers finished second at the sectional, scoring 111 points. New Castle won the sectional championship by scoring 130 points and Pendleton Heights took third with 108 points. All three teams advance to next Saturday’s Kokomo regional.
This was the second successful meet for Fishers in the past two weeks. Last Saturday, the Tigers won the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet, scoring 122 points.
This marks the fifth consecutive time that Fishers has made it out of the Unified Track sectional. The Tigers have advanced every year since 2016. Of course, there was no season in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so Fishers – and for that matter, all the teams – were thrilled to be able to compete again.
“It’s amazing that we were able to do this this year,” said Tigers coach Patrick Schooley. “Last year, having it canceled was devastating for a lot of our students. It was devastating for us as coaches. But to be able to have a season this year, I think everybody needed that. We needed that as coaches, the students needed it, and it was just great to be back out here this year having a competition.”
Fishers had many good performances at the meet, including two first-place finishes in the 100 dash. Luke Valerio and Conner Babcock went 1-2 in Section 1, with Colin Schooley winning Section 4.
“When you come to these meets, you just got to perform where you’re seeded and everybody did that,” said Patrick Schooley. The coach was “very happy” with the performances.
“Everybody did such a super job,” said Schooley.
Westfield finished in fourth place by scoring 107 points. The Shamrocks had four event winners, including two in the relays. The girls 4×100 team of Ellie Rinne, Alex Hewitt, Brooke Easterhaus and Lauren Ryan won Section 1 of that event, while the boys 4×100 team of Owen Dossett, James Kraus, Carson Saturday and Finn McKenna also placed first in Section 1. Whitley Schwent (Flight 3) and Elayna Reynolds (Flight 4) were winners in the shot put.
Carmel tied for sixth place with 93 points. James Gastineau was a winner in the 100 dash, taking first in Section 4.
Noblesville scored 76 points to place eighth as a team. Leading the Millers with runner-up finishes were Alden Newby in Flight 6 of the long jump and Eliza Bozell in Flight 6 of the shot put.
Hamilton Southeastern scored 72 points for ninth place. Teegan Acres placed third in Section 2 of the 400 dash and Flight 5 of the shot put. Other third-place finishers were Gabrielle Dodridge in Section 3 of the 100 dash and Bridget Bell in Flight 6 of the long jump.

Team scores: New Castle 130, Fishers 111, Pendleton Heights 108, Westfield 107, Lawrence Central 95, Carmel 93, Lawrence North 93, Noblesville 76, Hamilton Southeastern 72, Zionsville 65, New Palestine 58.
