The Indiana Section of the Professional Golf Association recently honored two golf professionals at Woodland Country Club of Carmel for being among the best in the industry.
Head Golf Professional Patrick White was recognized with the Horton Smith Award on Monday, February 24th. The award is given to a PGA Professional who is a model educator of other PGA Golf Professionals. Horton Smith was best known as the winner of the first and third Masters Tournaments.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the Horton Smith Award,” White says. “The Indiana PGA Board of Directors allow me to serve as the Education Chair and provide educational opportunities for our members, and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy.”
Assistant Golf Professional Brittany Kelly was named 2019 Indiana PGA Women’s Player of the Year. Kelly played in the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club last June, one of golf’s most prestigious events. Kelly also helped lead Team USA to a championship at the inaugural Women’s PGA Cup in October.
“I feel really honored to receive this award,” Kelly says. “It wouldn’t have been possible though without the support from Woodland Country Club, Callaway and my amazing family. It really means so much.”
Executive Director Mike David said there were a lot of worthy candidates this year, “The Committee had a difficult time arriving at the final selections because of the number of quality candidates who were nominated for the awards.”
Two other golf professionals from the Hamilton County area were recognized for their dedication to the sport. Jake Peacock from Prairie View Golf Course was awarded the Merchandiser of the Year award and Jeff Smith from Sagamore Golf Course was awarded the Teacher of the Year prize.
