On Tuesday, Alexis Lowry and Gary Lane reported record breaking results for Democrats in Westfield’s primary election. Lowry and Lane are running for Westfield City Council seats and are both first-time candidates.
Lowry, a small business owner and foster parent, is seeking the Westfield City Council’s District 4 seat.
“I am so excited to have the privilege and opportunity to give back to my hometown,” said Lowry said. “It’s really important to remember that representation matters. I can’t wait to be a voice for all, but especially women and moms.”
Shelly Brown, Lowry’s campaign manager, shared how the community has responded to Lowry’s historic race.
“As the first woman Democrat to run in Westfield in 17 years, it has been amazing to see the overwhelmingly positive response to Alexis and her candidacy,” Brown said. “I am excited to see that support continue all the way to November.”
Lane, an Executive Director at Indiana University Health, is seeking one of the two Westfield City Council At Large seats.
“I’m so grateful to all the Westfield residents that voted with their minds and hearts yesterday when they pulled a Democratic ballot,” Lane said. “I take it as an indication of how much they want to see diversity in thought in their local government, and I’m honored to represent that.”
Alison Hettenbach, Lane’s Communications Director, noted that Lane’s candidacy has brought people together all over the city of Westfield.
“Having a Democrat running citywide has inspired so many people to get involved with this race,” Hettenbach said. “Gary’s experience and passion to bring innovation to Westfield is something voters are clearly excited about, and I know it will push this campaign forward to November.”
As the official Democratic nominees, Lane and Lowry will now be on the ballot in the November election.
