Trinity Lutheran overwhelms ‘Hounds

Carmel had a long night in Louisville on Friday, as the Greyhounds played perennial Kentucky powerhouse Trinity Lutheran for their season opener.
Class 6A No. 1 Carmel fell behind early, and while they battled back in the second half, the ‘Hounds eventually lost 41-14. The Shamrocks scored a touchdown in the first quarter, then ran away from Carmel in the second period, putting up 27 unanswered points.
The Greyhounds got on the board early in the third quarter. JD Rogers ran 16 yards in the first play of the second half, then zoomed in to the end zone from 64 yards. Trinity answered by scoring with 7:59 left in the quarter, making a three-yard touchdown run after converting a 45-yard pass on third down.
Carmel got one more touchdown in the fourth quarter, when Rogers scored on an eight-yard run. AJ Vinatieri made both extra point kicks.
Rogers finished the game with 110 yards rushing on six carries. Christian Williams had a pair of receptions.
The Greyhounds will play their home opener next Friday, welcoming Noblesville into Carmel Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
