The University boys won their fourth consecutive Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference North Division championship Friday night, with an 83-30 win at Anderson Preparatory Academy.
A 17-0 run over four minutes in the first quarter put the game out of reach early as University took a 19-2 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter. Joe Martin had nine first quarter points and Max Greenamoyer had seven as the Trailblazers led 23-6 at the end of the first quarter.
University increased its lead to 45-17 at halftime. Korey Ash-Simpson and Greenamoyer each had five points in the period. The Blazers led 59-26 after three quarters and the University bench played the entire fourth quarter.
All 12 Trailblazers who dressed scored at least two points. Joe Martin led with 17. Larry Pierce (12) and Max Greenamoyer (11) also reached double figures. Korey Ash-Simpson had nine points and Sam Mervis and Kasey Ash-Simpson had six each. Mervis had a game-high six assists.
“We’re happy to get the win and to get a chance to defend our PAAC championship” said University coach Brandon Lafferman. The Trailblazers will play at the PAAC South champion on Saturday February 15. Greenwood Christian leads the PAAC South at 3-0 and clinch the championship with a win over International on Monday. International can with the South with wins next week over Greenwood Christian and Park Tudor.
University has now won 19 consecutive PAAC North games over five seasons. The Trailblazers lost the first PAAC North game they played, falling to Liberty Christian on Dec. 12, 2015. The Blazers have won the last two PAAC championships.
The Trailblazers are now 13-3 on the season, 4-0 in PAAC North play. University plays Saturday night at Indianapolis Scecina.
