University’s girls lost their fifth consecutive game Thursday night dropping a 50-38 decision at Tri-West.
The Trailblazers got off to a quick start leading 6-2 just over two minutes into the contest. Anyah Turley opened the scoring with a basket before Charlotte Conyers scored twice, once off her own steal and then off a Turley steal. The Bruins scored the next eight points and led 14-12 after the first quarter.
The teams traded baskets early in the second quarter with Keira Bright making a bucket and Hannah Grubbs making two free throws to get University within 17-16. Tri-West ended the quarter on a 12-2 run and led 29-18 at halftime.
The Trailblazers were not able to get closer than seven points in the second half as the Bruins made 9 of 13 foul shots in the fourth quarter to coast to the victory.
Conyers led University in scoring with 11 points. Bright had eight points with Mack Feeney scoring six, Grubbs five and Leah Norvell and Turley having four each.
University controlled the backboard pulling down a season-high 56 rebounds. Feeney had a career-high 19 rebounds with Grubbs corralling 13 missed shots. Feeney had three blocked shots and Grubbs two.
University is 9-12 on the season and will close out the regular season hosting Tipton at Noon Saturday at The U Center. Tri-West closes their regular season with a 12-10 mark. Lauren Bear led the Bruins with 15 points and Atta Garnett had 13.
