There was plenty of excitement at the Mudsock track and field meet, which took place Friday at Hamilton Southeastern’s TCU Field.
The meet itself finished in a split, with the Fishers boys team and the Southeastern girls team winning their respective meets, thus earning Mudsock trophies. The Tigers boys won by a score of 74-59, while the Royals girls were 84-43 winners.
“We did really well,” said Royals coach Julie Alano. “Improving in a lot of races and we’re just trying to figure out who should run what event, still.”
Southeastern’s girls won 12 of the 16 events at the Mudsock. The Royals got a double win from Rosiebella Fiabema in the shot put (42 feet, 11 inches, a personal best) and discus.
Other individual winners were Ally Elsbury (100 hurdles), Elia Blackmore (300 hurdles, in the 45-second range), Allie Latta (800 run), Elizabeth Butler (1600 run), Maggie Powers (3200 run), Kenley Johnson (high jump) and Olivia Maynard (pole vault).
Southeastern also swept the relays. Jehnea Mirro, Elsbury, Sanai Smith and Bella Pyle were the winners of the 4×100, Blackmore, Ciara Kepner, Mirro and Regan Wans placed first in the 4×400, and Powers, Kepner, Grace Newton and Latta won the 4×800.
Alano said that “being able to put four people in every event was huge,” as it will help the Royals figure out who belongs in which event as track and field moves into the tournament season. The season begins Tuesday with the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet at Zionsville.
“We’re still figuring out our lineup for Tuesday, but this helped us. Helped us figure it out and our girls ran well.”
The other four events went to Fishers’ Ella Scally, who had a spectacular meet. Scally won the 100 dash, 200 dash, 400 dash (in a new school record time of 58.21 seconds) and the long jump (also in a new school record, over 19 feet, 4 inches).
The Tigers boys team won 10 of the 16 events. Tyler Tarter was first in both the 110 and 300 hurdles; finishing the latter race in a new school record of 39.45 seconds. Bryce Williams won the 100 and 200 dashes, and Keefer Soehngen placed first in the 400 dash and 800 run.
Tate Meaux paced the 3200 run and Josh Forbes was first in the pole vault. Fishers won two relays, with Joe Syrus, Grant Shelton, Leo Morrow and Williams taking the 4×100, and Mikell Wiggins, Morrow, Shelton and Tarter placing first in the 4×400.
“The boys came out there and competed,” said Tigers coach Nathan Warnecke. “The seniors did a great job leading the team. We had boys step up and compete like they’ve never had before. And it was a good time. Good experience for the boys leading into our conference meet next Thursday night.”
Fishers will host the boys HCC meet on Thursday.
Southeastern picked up the other six events, starting with a win in the 4×800 relay, from Andrew Knight, Nolan Satterfield, Garrett Hicks and Bennett DuBois.
Satterfield also won the 1600 run. The Royals picked up four event victories, from Manraj Grewal in the high jump, Lamine Sall in the long jump, Jack Constantine in the discus and Jack Greer in the shot put.
