Sheridan Main Street’s First Friday for July is tonight, and the Sheridan Historical Society has unique events ready for those who want to stop by to look.

Just inside our door is a post card display put together by Society member Donna Jessup. She has collected a series of postcards which are pictures of Sheridan scenes from years past. They are remarkably interesting if you want to see what our community looked like in the past.

Also available will be a demonstration of loom weaving by Dort and Pokie Pickett. The Society originally purchased the loom from the Picketts; they periodically come by and teach us a thing or two about the weaving craft. If you are interested in seeing how a loom works, please stop in during our First Friday open hours.

And while you are here to see what weaving is about, take a few moments to visit the Larry Hobbs Basketball Era exhibit. John Holmes was one of Coach Hobbs’ boys back in the 1950s, and he will be the acting docent for the basketball display. John is full of information about the exhibit and will be glad to answer your questions.

So, we are planning a busy, educational, fun filled First Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Museum, located at 315 S. Main St., Sheridan. We have postcards, weaving, and basketball for sure, but we also have Bud Wright football stuff, Civil War stuff, and loads of pictures – a little of everything.

I hope you can join us Friday evening and enjoy our beautiful exterior Fourth of July decorations. And we will be open on Monday, too, from 10 a.m. for the parade, so bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the view from beneath our marque.
