Fishers won a wild game on Tuesday, beating Mount Vernon 16-14 at home for its fifth win in a row.
The Class 4A No. 3 Tigers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first on three walks, three hit batters, and two singles. Alex Jamieson delivered a two-run single and Jack Roudebush contributed an RBI single. The other three runs came from walks or hit batters with the bases loaded. After a rocky top of first inning, Tiger starter Mason Thomas appeared to be headed toward a 1-2-3 inning in the second. However, an error on what would have been out number three opened up the door for the Marauders as they scored seven unearned runs in the inning.
The Tigers answered right back in the second inning with four runs. Daniel Owens walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 7-7. Roudebush followed with a three-run triple down the right field line to take the lead 10-7. Neither team scored in the third inning. The Marauders were able to score another touchdown in the fourth scoring seven runs on six hits, two walks, and a hit batter to take the lead 14-10.
The Tigers once again showed fight as they answered right back with four more runs to tie the score at 14 after four innings. Owens was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth. Roudebush delivered a double down the right line. Nick Lukac followed with a two-run double. After Ben Burton walked and Craig Yoho was hit by a pitch, Grant Richardson was also hit by a pitch to score the third run of the inning. Kiel Brenczewski followed with an RBI sacrifice fly.
The score would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth inning. Yoho reached first to lead off the inning when the second baseman dropped his pop-up. Richardson capitalized on the miscue scoring Yoho on the game-winning RBI triple. Richardson would later score on a wild pitch for the Tigers 16th run of the night.
Roudebush led the Tigers with a 4-for-4 night, including a triple, two doubles, and four RBIs. Richardson added the go-ahead triple and three RBIs. Lukac finished with a double and three RBIs. Wolff also contributed a double and an RBI. The Tigers were very aggressive on the bases with six stolen bases, two each from Burton and Richardson.
Alex Klotz (1-0) earned the victory on the mound with three and a third innings of relief. After allowing an infield single to the first batter he faced, Klotz settled in and did not allow another hit, while retiring the final eight batters in a row. Klotz did not allow a run and finished with two strikeouts, two walks, and the one infield hit.
The Tigers are now 5-3 and return to Hoosier Crossroads Conference play on Thursday when they begin a three-game series with the Brownsburg Bulldogs. Fishers plays at Brownsburg on Thursday and Saturday and will host the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Friday.
