Fishers opened its 2019 season with a 2-1 victory over a solid Homestead team Monday at the Spartans’ field.
Both teams combined for 18 strikeouts while only allowing four hits (two from each team). The Tigers threw seven different pitchers, each for one inning and combined to allow no earned runs on two hits, while striking out 11. Fishers’ pitchers did walk four and hit one batter. Jon Vore started the game and pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Jack Minns also pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the sixth in front of Nick Lukac who struck out the side in the seventh for his first save of the season. Anthony Castellani, Michael Hart, Tristan Baker, and Daniel Owens also pitched in the game.
The Tigers scored their only two runs within the first three batters of the game. JJ Woolwine was hit by a pitch to lead things off. Woolwine stole second and advanced to third on Lukac’s single to left center field. After Lukac stole second to put runners at second and third, Kiel Brenczewski delivered an RBI single to left to score Woolwine. Lukac was held at third on the play as the throw from left field went all the way to home plate. Brenczewski attempted to take second base on the throw home, but was thrown out by the catcher. Lukac raced home as Brenczewski was thrown out for Fishers’ second run. The Tigers would be held hitless the rest of the game with only two more base runners reaching, one on a dropped third strike and one on an error.
Fishers returns to action this weekend when it travels to Tennessee for the Tigers’ annual Spring Break Trip.
