Tigers still perfect after busy weekend

The Fishers baseball teams is still unbeaten for the season after a busy slate of games last weekend.

The Tigers finished a Hoosier Crossroads Conference sweep of Zionsville last Friday, winning 2-1. Fishers continued its perfect run with another sweep, this time in a doubleheader with Mount Vernon last Saturday, winning the first game 9-6 and the second game 3-2.

Walk off win

The Tigers-Eagles game was scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, when Zionsville scored its run on a sacrifice fly. Fishers came back to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the walk-off win.

Trevor Hall got on base with a one-out single, then moved to second base after a pitcher’s balk. Carter Strole then drew a walk. Jase Ruggles smacked a double into left field to score Hall and tie the game, with Strole advancing to third base. Mayo Fernandez was intentionally walked, bringing up Brady Carman, who sent a base hit into left field to send home Strole for the winning run.

Hayden Werner pitched the first six innings of the game, striking out six. Owen Lukac threw the seventh inning and got the win.

More late runs

Fishers scored early, late and often in its first game with the Marauders. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, with Luke Cherry batting in the Huston Dunn for the Tigers’ first run. Zander Carnahan tied the game when Hall reached on an error.

Fishers surged ahead 6-2 after putting up four runs in the second inning. Fernandez, Justin Brown and Deagan Repp loaded the bases with three consecutive singles, then Fernandez scored when Dunn drew a walk. Carnahan came up next and emptied the bases with a center field double to bring in Lukac, Repp and Dunn.

Mount Vernon scored a run in the fifth inning, then tied the game with three runs in the top of the sixth. But the Tigers came back again: Repp led off with a double, then moved to third base on Dunn’s base hit. Carnahan singled in Repp, then Cherry hit a sacrifice fly to score Dunn. Hall came up and blasted a right field double to send Carnahan home.

Carnahan totaled four RBIs. Hall got the pitching win, with starter Grant Wolf tossing three strikeouts in three innings.

Fishers began the second game of the doubleheader by scoring all three of its runs in the first inning. Repp once again led off with a double, then Carnahan hit a double to bring him home. Ruggles got on base with a walk, then Collin Hebert hit a center field single to score Carnahan and Ruggles.

Carman also hit a double. Reid Garber went five innings for the win, allowing just three hits.

This week’s games

Fishers is 7-0 for the season and plays four games this week. The Tigers host Homestead on Monday, then competes in an HCC series with Noblesville, hosting the Millers on Thursday before playing a Don Dunker Field on Friday. Fishers plays at Greenfield-Central on Saturday to conclude the week.
