Tigers, ‘Rocks clinch share of HCC crown

The Hoosier Crossroads Conference boys basketball championship will be shared amongst three teams this season.
That includes Fishers and Westfield. The Tigers won their part of the HCC crown by beating Zionsville 40-39 Friday at the Tiger Den. The Shamrocks went on the road to Franklin Central, and got a piece of the title with a 67-61 win over the Flashes.
Fishers and Westfield will share the HCC championship with Brownsburg; all three teams finished conference play with 5-2 records.
SIMMONS’ PUTBACK SENDS FISHERS TO VICTORY
The game came down to a putback by Jeffrey Simmons, who scored with around five seconds left to get Fishers in front. The Eagles tried for a last shot, but it didn’t go.
It was a close game throughout. The Tigers and Zionsville were tied at 11-11 after the first quarter; Lucas Prewitt had five points for Fishers. The Eagles jumped ahead 22-19 at halftime. The Tigers cut that advantage to 34-33 after three periods. Bryce Williams helped out in the third with seven points. Sean Millsaps scored five points in the fourth quarter.
Simmons led the Fishers scoring with 11 points, while Williams, Smith and Prewitt all had seven.
The Tigers are 13-5 overall and play at North Central on Tuesday.

‘ROCKS TAKE OVER IN SECOND HALF
Westfield trailed 18-14 after the first quarter and 27-22 at halftime. The Shamrocks turned things around in the third quarter, outscoring the Flashes 23-10 to take 45-37 lead.
Late in the fourth quarter, Franklin Central hit a 3-pointer to cut Westfield’s lead to two points. Matthew Penley answered that with his own 3, then later made an offensive rebound off a free throw, and that clinched the game.
Braden Smith scored 30 points for the ‘Rocks, and also had nine assists and eight rebounds. Penley added 17 points, while Nic Depasquale scored 11 points and collected five rebounds.
Westfield is 14-4 and hosts Decatur Central tonight.
