Baseball roundup: Tigers & Huskies claim all-county wins, GC falls to North Central

The Fishers baseball team won an all-county game over Carmel 6-4 Tuesday at the Tigers’ field.

The Class 4A No. 8 Greyhounds scored two runs in the first inning: JD Stein got home on an error, then Parker Heaney batted in Hunter Snow. The Tigers tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning. Ben Hammond singled Huston Dunn home for the first run, then Jase Ruggles sent Hammond home with a center field hit.

Carmel added one run in the top of the fifth when Carson Mace got home on Tyler Walkey’s RBI groundout. Fishers answered that with four runs in the bottom of that inning. Owen Lukac got home on an error, then Noah McPeek singled Dunn home. McPeek and Hammond both scored after Evan Doran reached on error, and the Tigers led 6-3. The Greyhounds scored a run in the seventh inning when Silas Neal got home on Walkey’s RBI groundout.

Ruggles had two hits for Fishers. Jace Johnson went six and one-third innings for the win. Stein and Heaney both got two hits for Carmel, a single and a double each. Adam Buczkowski threw five strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings.

The Tigers are 13-7 and begin a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series tonight at Avon. The Greyhounds are 9-6 and host Harrison tonight.

Hamilton Heights also picked up an all-county victory Tuesday, beating University 2-1 at RoundTripper Academy, the Trailblazers’ home field.

The Huskies scored a run in the top of the first inning when Dean Mason got home on an error. University tied the game in the third inning: Charlie Ranek got home on Ryan Castetter’s RBI fielder’s choice. Heights got the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, Dillon Pitts drew a bases-loaded walk to score John Irion.

Mason finished the game with two hits. Levi Chandler got the win in relief with two strikeouts and one hit in two and one-third innings. Starter Owen Robey struck out seven in four and two-thirds innings.

Mark Hamby hit a double for University. Laine Spears pitched five innings, striking out six.

The Huskies are 9-6 and hosts Lapel Thursday. The Blazers are 9-7-1 and play this afternoon at Lawrence North.

Guerin Catholic dropped a 2-1 home game to North Central Tuesday.

The Raiders scored one run each in the second and fourth innings. Ian Taylor scored the 3A No. 2 Golden Eagles’ run in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.

Taylor had two hits, a triple and a single. AJ Nunley hit a double. Davis Wagner threw four strikeouts in three innings.

Guerin Catholic is 12-3 and plays this afternoon at 3A No. 5 Park Tudor.
