The Fishers boys basketball team endured twice the frustration at the Homestead Tournament on Wednesday, as the Tigers dropped both of their pool games in overtime.
The Tigers fell to Mishawaka Marian 58-55 in their opening game. The score was tied at 18-18 after the first quarter; Taden Metzger threw in two 3-pointers and Jalen Haralson also added six points. Fishers led 29-25 at halftime, with Haralson adding another six points.
The Knights cut the Tigers’ lead to 42-40 after three quarters. Marian tied the game at 51-51 by the end of regulation, then outscored Fishers 7-4 in the extra period.
Haralson led the Tigers with 26 points. Metzger totaled four 3-pointers, giving him 12 points.
Unfortunately, the second game followed the same script, as Fishers lost to Valparaiso 65-61. The Vikings led 17-16 after the first quarter, with Haralson scoring 10 points. Valpo led 24-23 at halftime, but the Tigers surged ahead in the third period, going up 37-34. Metzger and Keenan Garner both had five points in the third.
The Vikings came back in the fourth, tying the game at 50-50 by the end of regulation. The overtime period was a high-scoring one, with Valpo getting 15 points to Fishers’ 11 points.
Haralson scored 27 points for the Tigers, with Metzger and Garner both contributing 13 points.
Fishers is 5-5 and plays Bishop Dwenger this morning in its final pool game. The Tigers will play a placement game this evening.
