Thomas Calvin Burtron

November 26, 1951 – April 11, 2018

Thomas Calvin Burtron, 66, passed away at his home in Sheridan on Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018. He was born in Noblesville on November 26, 1951, to the late Claude Venton Burtron, Sr. and Gladys A. (Honeas) Burtron.

No stranger to hard work, Tom worked for Biddle’s Gas Station and Burtron’s Poultry while still in high school. Not too long after graduating with the Sheridan High School Class of 1970, Tom hired on at TRW Foundry, which was located on 8th Street in Noblesville. He also worked construction for a short time with both Perry Construction and McDougall Pierce Construction companies. After leaving the construction trade, Tom went to work for Wallace Grain Company in Sheridan. He knew almost everybody that would come up to the elevator, and that made for a perfect working environment that would last for the next 25 years.

Tom loved the town of Sheridan – and everything and everybody that came along with it. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Sheridan Fire Department for over 20 years, as well as a member of the Sheridan Town Council. Tom was also a member and Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, K.V. Elliott Post 67. Tom was a loyal supporter of the Sheridan community and very devoted to any of the organizations where he belonged and served.

Tom enjoyed carpentry and going camping whenever he got the chance. He also collected vintage quilts. Tom could sit for hours watching cooking shows on TV. They seemed to feed his love for cooking, baking and his weekly trips to Kroger.

Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Debbie (Kinkead) Burtron. She and Tom were married on December 23, 1972. He is also survived by three wonderful daughters, Angel Burtron Cooper (Calvin), Sheridan; Brandy Burtron Blanton (Nelson), Pickard; and Shaa Burtron Fuller (Randy), Sheridan; seven grandchildren, Brantley Burtron, Landyn Cooper, Alexus Burtron, Colton Cooper, Hayden Fuller, Hadley Fuller and Harlyn Fuller; one great-grandchild, Kiernan Mateyko; three brothers, Claude, Carl and Rick; eight sisters, Mary Lou, Phyllis, Carolyn, Charlene, Isabelle, Sandra, Janet and Tina; his sister-in-law, Karen Christian (Danny), Sheridan; mother-in-law, Shirley Kinkead, Sheridan; and many, many nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by his canine best friend and the brother his daughters never had, Ammo. When Tom’s health started to fail, Ammo went to stay with his granddaughter – easing Tom’s mind and giving Ammo a safe and loving new forever home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert Burtron; his sister, Kathy Jo Burtron; and by his father-in-law, Jimmy Kinkead.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan. Tom’s nephew, Adam Spencer, will officiate. Burial will follow at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Kercheval Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions may be presented to the Sons of the American Legion, or to the Sheridan Fire Department.
