Neil Simon’s hilarious romantic comedy will be performed Oct. 6-8
The Hyperion Players, a new community theatre based in eastern Hamilton County, will present Neil Simon’s beloved comedy, Barefoot in the Park, Oct. 6 to 8 at The Switch Theatre, 10029 E. 126th St., Fishers. The curtain rises each night at 7:30 p.m.
Audiences may be familiar with this story, perhaps through the 1967 film adaptation starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. The setting is simple, but the script features countless instances of Simon’s famous wit: Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic Velasco, where everything that can go wrong does.
“For the inaugural play of our pilot season, we wanted to feature a classic comedy – something light and witty that every audience member could enjoy,” Director Ian Hauer said. “Of course, much of the humor comes from the play’s relatability. Though the plot is colorful and the characters larger-than-life, Barefoot captures the highs, lows, mess and magic of love – and stuffs them into an efficiency apartment.”
Barefoot in the Park is the second production by The Hyperion Players, and the first of the pilot season, which is also set to include Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage and an original play, Call Me Sister.
