Tennis: Sweeps are the story for four county teams

The Noblesville girls tennis team picked up two wins this week.

On Tuesday, the No. 10-ranked Millers won their Senior Night meet by beating Mount Vernon 4-1. Noblesville swept all three singles matches, led by No. 1 Bella Duncan scoring a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. No. 2 Allie Stamm and No. 3 Josie Flinchum both won their matches 6-1, 6-0. Lina Hamashuk and Cami Crist took the No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-1, while No. 2 doubles Daniella Tuesca and Olivia Gadis lost a close match, 6-4, 6-3.

Millers coach Kevin Lindley said the Marauders are just outside the top 30 rankings, and noted they have won their sectional eight years in a row. “I was very pleased with the way we took care of business today,” he said.

On Wednesday, Noblesville swept Anderson 5-0. No. 1 singles Ava Chevillet got a 6-0, 6-0 victory, No. 2 Megan Rowley won 6-1, 6-0 and No. 3 Anjali Gupta was a 6-0, 6-1 winner. In doubles, Tuesca and Gadis swept to a 6-0, 6-0 shutout, and No. 2 Kendell Simpson and Whitney Nelson won 6-2, 6-0.

Top-ranked Carmel got two dual meet sweeps this week.

The Greyhounds beat No. 29 Brownsburg 5-0 on Tuesday, then came back to beat No. 15 Park Tudor 5-0 on Wednesday. Carmel plays Friday at No. 16 Center Grove.

Westfield, ranked No. 14, won a tough battle with No. 17 Harrison 3-2 on Wednesday.

The Shamrocks got wins from No. 2 singles Alana Raymond 6-2, 6-0, No. 3 singles Addi Kooi 6-2, 6-2 and No. 2 doubles Bri Saylor and Chloe Carlson 6-3, 6-1.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 20, swept Brownsburg 5-0 in a Wednesday dual meet.

Singles winners for the Royals were No. 1 Taylor Wolf, No. 2 Emma Bieberich and No. 3 Tatum Keaffaber, while doubles winners were No. 1 Novelle Lee and Maya Wetzel and No. 2 Peighton Baugh and Naina Patwardhan.

The Hoosier Crossroads Conference teams are playing at the conference meet, which began Thursday at Southeastern. The meet continues on Saturday.
