Tennis sectionals are scheduled to begin today in Hamilton County – weather permitting, of course.
Defending state champion and No. 1-ranked Carmel will host sectional semi-finals at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center. The Greyhounds take on University, while No. 8 Westfield will play Guerin Catholic. Both matches begin at 5:15 p.m., with the winners advancing to the Thursday championship. (If there is a rainout today, the schedule will be pushed back a day.)
Fishers hosts the other county sectional. The No. 4-ranked Tigers play No. 15 Noblesville in one semi-final, with No. 10 Hamilton Southeastern taking on Hamilton Heights. Action begins at 4:30 p.m., and the winners move on to the championship on Thursday.
In Monday matches, Carmel beat Noblesville 4-1 in a dual meet. The Greyhounds swept the singles matches, with Lauren Littell winning 6-0, 6-2, Nora Perkins getting a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Hallie Reeves winning 6-2, 6-1. No. 1 doubles Thea Bertolini and Alexa Lewis won 7-6, 6-3. The Millers’ No. 2 doubles team of Sierra Leach and Cami Crist won in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.
Fishers took care of New Palestine 5-0 on Monday, finishing its regular season 14-1. Mischa Briggs, Izzy Mokra and Caroline Ober all won singles matches 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Emma Beehler and Cassie Maurer were 6-0, 6-2 winners, while Madelyn Baron and Meredith Ober won 6-0, 6-1.
Westfield defeated Pendleton Heights 4-1 in a Monday dual to complete a 13-3 regular season. In singles, Alana Raymond was a 6-1, 6-0 winner and Addi Kooi scored a shutout 6-0, 6-0. Lauren Hammond and Emma Schwind were victorious 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, with Brooke Rodgers and Chloe Carlson winning 6-1, 6-1.
