Tennis: Rocks clinch unbeaten HCC record, University wins again

The Westfield girls tennis team made history on Tuesday, as the No. 4 ranked Shamrocks clinched their first-ever unbeaten Hoosier Crossroads Conference season.

Westfield beat Franklin Central 4-1 to complete the perfect campaign. The ‘Rocks got 6-0, 6-0 wins from No. 1 singles Alexandra Grilliot and the No. 2 doubles team of Addi Kooi and Addison Laub. Also winning were No. 2 singles Isla Harvey and the No. 1 doubles team of Jenna Berry and Bella Rivera.

Westfield travels to Zionsville this afternoon for the first round of the HCC meet.

University beat Covenant Christian 3-2 on Tuesday, improving its record to 6-3 for the season.

No. 1 singles Laurel Buttrick and No. 2 singles Duygu Arseven both won their matches 6-0, 6-0; this is the seventh consecutive shutout for Buttrick. The Trailblazers’ No. 2 doubles team of Anisha Patel and Tess Eggeson also won, that score was not available.

University travels to Park Tudor on Saturday for the Pioneer Conference meet.

Both teams are headed to Zionsville this afternoon to begin play in the HCC meet.
