Tennis: No. 1 Carmel wins again, HSE upsets Zionsville

The Carmel boys tennis team sailed past Lawrence North 5-0 in a Tuesday dual meet.
The Greyhounds, ranked No. 1 in the IHSTeCA’s first poll of the year, dropped just three games in five matches. No. 1 singles Patrick Fletchall, No. 2 singles Presley Thieneman and the No. 2 doubles team of Uday Lomada and Garrett Lloyd all won 6-0, 6-0.
No. 3 singles Nashanth Basaverredy won 6-0, 6-1 and the No. 1 doubles team of Drew Michael and Timmy Dixon was a 6-1, 6-1 winner.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 21 in the state, upset No. 10 Zionsville 3-2 in an exciting Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet on Tuesday.
The Eagles won the first two matches at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles, but the Royals came back and won the next three matches. Southeastern’s No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Myers and Mark Slaninka won 7-5, 6-2, then Otto Lutz tied things up with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
HSE’s Elias Yarling finished the match out with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Yarling won the last two points of from deuce, hitting a big service winner along the way.
The Royals will travel to Fishers today for the Mudsock match. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.

Westfield dropped another close dual meet, to Avon 3-2 on Monday.
The Shamrocks won at No. 2 singles, with Quentin Markle getting a straight-set victory. Westfield’s No. 2 doubles team of Joe Day and Nicholas Mabe won in three sets, with the No. 1 team of Carson Maris and Connor Maris falling in three close sets.
