Tennis: Millers & Royals show up, take down opponents

The Noblesville boys tennis team beat host University 3-2 Wednesday in an all-county battle.

The No. 24-ranked Millers swept both doubles matches, with No. 1 Rory Bushong and Liam Shepard and No. 2 Jack Brenneman and Dane Campbell both winning in straight sets. Noblesville’s No. 3 singles Zane Panning also picked up a straight-set win.

The Trailblazers got wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Owen Schellhase was victorious at No. 1 singles; he is undefeated for the season. No. 2 singles Kothe Birge also won.

No. 1 singles: Owen Schellhase (U) def. Ethan Feliciano (N) 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 singles: Kothe Birge (U) def. Coleman Kratz (N) 6-0, 6-1

No. 3 singles: Zane Panning (N) def. Tyler Davis (U) 6-4, 6-3

No. 1 doubles: Rory Bushong and Liam Shepard (N) def. Jasper Owens and Evan Giushik (U) 6-3, 6-2

No. 2 doubles: Jack Brenneman and Dane Campbell (N) def. Hughie Baker and Carson Kilgore (U) 6-1, 6-2

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 23, got a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Cathedral on Wednesday.

The Royals’ first win came from the No. 1 doubles team of Elliot Cox and Logan Bill. No. 3 singles Tyler Rich got through a tough first set, then ran away with the second set for Southeastern’s second win.

The match came down to No. 2 doubles. Amay Kulkarni and Brady Stump split sets with their Cathedral opponents, then cruised through the third set to clinch the meet win.

Southeastern finished its regular season with this meet and will now prepare for the sectional at Fishers next week. Sectional pairings will be announced by the IHSAA at 7 p.m. Monday.
