The Hamilton Heights girls tennis team picked up a Hoosier Conference win over Lewis Cass on Wednesday by the score of 5-0.
The Huskies won four of the five matches in straight sets, with No. 1 singles Anna Carl winning hers in a close one, 7-5, 7-6 (0). No. 2 singles Kennedy Hunter prevailed in three sets.
“First off, we were thrilled to be able to play match with the sun shining and the temperatures decent,” said Heights coach Cameron Scott. ” On top of that, our girls played some of their best tennis of the year across the board.  In particular, Kennedy Hunter at No. 2 really played strong.  She continues to hit the ball better and better every time she steps on the court.
The Huskies junior varsity team fought for a 4-4 tie, as they got doubles wins from Addi Gordon and Katy Beery, Cortney Martin and Brooke Sears, Paige Doucette and Ashley Heniser, and Maddie Nickel and Hailey VanOeveren.
On Thursday, Heights fell to a strong Northwestern team 5-0.
“Hats off to a strong Northwestern team,” said Scott. “They’ve got a strong lineup that fits well at their positions.  Our girls played hard and thought hard in some tricky conditions. Despite not coming out on top, I’ve got no doubt this match will help us continue to build toward something. One thing I’ve learned more and more as this season rolls along is that our girls are fighters.
The JV team lost as well, but got wins from Gordon and Katy Beery in doubles as well as Nickel and Jackie Beery in singles.
The Huskies are 4-2 in varsity competition and 3-1-1 on the JV side.
