The Carmel boys tennis team began its 2020 season with a 5-0 dual meet win over county rival Hamilton Southeastern Tuesday at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center.
The defending state champion Greyhounds won all five matches in straight sets, although the Royals did put up resistance. The doubles matches were the closest: Carmel’s No. 1 team of Jones McNamar and Srisanth Malpeddi edged out Andrew Spirrison and Paul Schneider 7-5 in the first set before winning the second set. At No. 2 doubles, Corbin King and Braedon McIntyre won a first-set tiebreak over Evan Wang and Abhi Chaddha, and followed that with a 6-3 second set win.
The Greyhounds travel to West Lafayette today for a dual meet, while the Royals host Brownsburg on Thursday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet.

Hamilton Heights overwhelmed a young Elwood team 5-0 in a Tuesday dual meet.
The Huskies only dropped two games in the five matches. No. 2 singles Nick Rice and both doubles teams, No. 1 Josh Russell and Jake Martin and No. 2 Colin Weber and Grant Cavanaugh, swept to 6-0, 6-0 victories. No. 1 singles Ben Wolfgang was a 6-0, 6-1 winner, while No. 3 singles Erik Malott took his match 6-1, 6-0.
Guerin Catholic scored a first-ever victory over Park Tudor on Tuesday, winning the dual meet 4-1.
The Golden Eagles breezed through the singles matches, with Cole Metzger prevailing 6-0, 6-1, Max Fuller winning 6-0, 6-2 and Jak Kolb taking his match 6-2, 6-2. No. 2 doubles Thomas Darland and Zach Thieme were 6-3, 6-2 winners.
Westfield fell in its opener to North Central 4-1 on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks’ win came from the No. 1 doubles team of Christian Emigh and Brett Barnes.
