The Carmel boys tennis team took care of a tough opponent on Friday to claim another sectional championship.

The No. 1-ranked and host Greyhounds beat No. 4 Zionsville 5-0 to win the Sectional 35 title at the Todd Witsken Tennis Center. Carmel won all five matches in straight sets, although there were some tough ones during the meet.

No. 3 singles Wesley Worobel got a hard-fought victory at his flight, winning 7-5, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, senior Braedon McIntyre and junior Michael Bao won a first-set tiebreak, then got through the second set 6-3.

“I think everyone played great,” said Bao. “It was a lot of cheering, a lot of team camaraderie. I think it was just really good overall.”

The sectional championship is the 14th in a row for the Greyhounds and the 37th in program history.

“It feels great,” said McIntyre. “I saw my seniors do it. This being my senior year, I want to take it all the way.”

At the same time, McIntyre is aware that the team must take it one match at a time. Carmel will head to the Lebanon regional next week.

“We got to be focused for the next match,” said McIntyre. “Regionals isn’t going to be easy for us, either.” The senior said his team is going to “take it one at a time, and hopefully it turns out for us in the end.”
