Westfield boys soccer coach Kevin Scanlon had this to say about the 2022 edition of the Shamrocks team: “Very talented but needing experience playing on the varsity level.”

Westfield graduated several key players from its 2021 team, including its top four scorers, who accounted for 35 of the goals ‘Rocks scored. But Westfield has a strong senior class waiting in the wings, with a handful of players that have some varsity experience from last season’s squad, which went 10-5-2.

The list of returners includes several senior midfielders: Marlon Gomez, Aiden Yonkus and Yahir Lopez. Two more seniors also bring back experience: Defender Beck Hunter and goalkeeper/forward Liam Lloyd. Senior Everett Fife and junior Oliver Smith both scored three goals last season and are back as well.

The Shamrocks play two big home games to open their season, starting with Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Fishers on Tuesday and then welcoming Pike on Saturday.

“They just want to start playing anyone,” said Scanlon. “Been going against the same faces for too long.”
