The Fishers swim teams swept the Mudsock meet, which took place Thursday as the Tigers hosted Hamilton Southeastern at the Fishers aquatic center.
The Tigers girls won their meet 108-78, while the boys were 126-60 winners.
“Overall I thought the kids performed at a high level tonight,” said Fishers coach Joe Keller. He said the swimmers were challenged with being able to step up to pressure, “and know that in effect it’s a privilege to have that opportunity.”
The Fishers girls took eight of the 12 events. Jo Jo Ramey was a double winner for the Tigers, placing first in the 200 freestyle and backstroke.
Other individual victories came from Kate Mouser in the individual medley, Morgan Casey in diving, Abby Miller in the butterfly, Lydia Reade in the 500 free and Grace Lux in the breaststroke. Fishers also finished the meet with a win in the 400 free relay; Reade, Charlie Ramey, Mouser and Jo Jo Ramey all swam in that event.
“On the girls side, we saw a lot of great racing,” said Keller.
Kennedy Fisher won the 50 free from the Royals, with Molly Pedersen placing first in the 100 free.
“Both girls excelled at the first breakout and turn and never looked back,” said Southeastern assistant coach Matt Papachronis. “The team has been focusing on turns quite a bit the last two weeks and I think it showed throughout the night across the board. We’ll continue to make that a point of emphasis in training.”
Fisher teamed with Rebecca Ang, Audrey Crawford and Grace Newton to win the medley relay, while Fisher and Pedersen joined Ava Olson and Ashley Saple to take first in the 200 free relay.
In the boys meet, Fishers won 126-60. The Tigers won 11 of the 12 events; Kyle Ponsler paced the IM and breaststroke while Jackson Carlile took the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Other individual winners were William Jansen in diving, Connor Carlile in the butterfly, Tyler Schwertfeger in the 500 free and Logan Ayres in the backstroke. Fishers swept all three relays: Ponsler, Reed Beaumont, Connor Carlile and Jackson Carlile won both the medley and the 200 free relays, while Schwertfeger, Taichi Kataoka, Keaton Chop and Ayres were first in the 400 free relay.
Keller said the Tigers boys were “really outstanding”
“These boys, they really wanted to be impressive tonight,” said Keller. “They impressed me. I was really pleased.”
Keegan Streett won the Royals’ lone event, the 200 free. Other solid swims came from Noah Haines in the 200 free, as well as Ryan Harrison and Matt Truxall in the IM. Southeastern assistant coach Ben Wachtel also said Drew Hershman “brings fantastic effort” every time he goes into the water.
“Despite losing the meet, there were many silver linings as this team continues to find its way,” said Wachtel. “The effort was consistently great and there were even some season-best swims to highlight the evening. While the seniors have led the way all season, this evening it was the junior class that provided many of the evening’s highlights on the blue side.”
Both teams will compete in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference championships next, which take place this weekend at Brownsburg.
