It was another split decision Saturday for the Hamilton Southeastern and Fishers swimming and diving teams, this time at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet, which took place at the Tigers’ aquatic center.
Fishers won the girls meet, while HSE won the boys meet. Both schools also won multiple events in each division, and are now starting the process of preparing for the sectional, which is less than four weeks away.
“We just had one goal, and that was to try to treat the Thursday dual meet and today’s conference meet as a warm-up for sectionals,” said Royals coach Andy Pedersen. “So we had one goal, and that was to be better today than we were on Thursday. I thought across the board, on the girls and the guys side, that we were better than we were Thursday. So we were super proud of the kids for that. They showed up ready to go and they were tough to race today.”
“Based on what the objectives were, the expectations, I thought they swam great,” said Tigers coach Joe Keller of his team. Keller also said that his team was treating this meet as a prelim-final type of event, which is the same format as the sectional.
“We didn’t want to really try to take any kind of rest, reprieve,” said Keller. “We wanted to just come in and have to race tough, and for them to race tired. So with that said, I was really pleased with their performance.”
The Tigers’ girls scored 487 points to Southeastern’s 409. Noblesville finished fifth with 189 points and Westfield was sixth with 182.
Hannah Pratt was a double winner for Fishers, taking the 200 and 100 freestyles. Ellen Fero finished first in the 50 free, with Sam Hietpas winning the 500 free. The Tigers also won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Southeastern started the meet with a victory in the medley relay, then collected a win from Hannah Pugh in the individual medley. Sarah Ballard also won diving for the Royals; that event took place on Friday.
The Millers’ Sammy Huff picked up a win in the breaststroke. The Shamrocks’ Macy Hoaglan finished third in the 200 free.
In the boys meet, Southeastern picked up the team championship with 427 points, followed by Fishers with 367. Westfield finished sixth with 187 points, and Noblesville was seventh with 170.
The Royals swept all three relays, and also got a diving victory from freshman AJ Ricafort. Meanwhile, the Tigers got a double win from Aaron Frollo in the 200 and 500 freestyles.
Jack Wolfred led the Millers with runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles. Cameron Clayton finished third for the Shamrocks in the breaststroke.
