Susan Carol “Susie” Barnes-Bryan

January 6, 1949 – June 4, 2024

Susan Carol “Susie” Barnes-Bryan, 75, Tipton (formerly of Sheridan), passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, June 4, 2024, at The Waters of Tipton. Born January 6, 1949, in Lebanon, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward “Chink” Wagner and Billie Jean (Penrose) Wagner.

She was a 1967 graduate of Sheridan High School. Later in life, she returned to school and earned her BS in Accounting at Indiana Wesleyan University. Finishing her degree meant the world to her.

Susie was the very definition of an entrepreneurial spirit. Her creative expertise, organizational skills, and amazing personality served her well throughout the years. For most people, creating a business and watching it grow and become sustainable is an uphill battle. Susie thrived on the challenge. Establishing and operating businesses around the Sheridan area was what she did best. Some knew her as Susie the Realtor, while others may have visited her antique shop. Susie also spent 20 years as the proprietor of Village Pizza, which started in Whitestown, before expanding to Sheridan and Westfield. She was also a self-employed accountant for several businesses in Sheridan and the surrounding communities. If all of this wasn’t enough, Susie was also instrumental in the formation of Sheridan’s Harvest Moon Festival.

It wasn’t all work for Susie; there were many sides to her amazing life. She enjoyed traveling and creative writing, especially poetry. Her annual Christmas letter was usually written as a poem.

Susie was a woman of strong faith. Her servant’s heart and mindful spirit gave her strength as both a prayer warrior and caregiver. Susie was always lending a hand to those in need, doing whatever was needed, whenever it was needed, without giving it a second thought. She was a member of Rock Prairie Church in Tipton, where she loved organizing and attending prayer meetings.

Of all her accomplishments and endeavors, there was nothing she was prouder of than her family. They were her everything.

Susie is survived by her husband, Charles W. “Chuck” Bryan of Tipton. Chuck and Susie were married on July 25, 2021. Also surviving are two sons, Douglas L. Barnes (Stefani) of Oroville, Calif., and Matthew E. Barnes (Misti) of Gosport, Ind.; three grandchildren, Austin J. Barnes (Briana), Maxwell D. Barnes, and Audrey A. Barnes; great-grandchild, Katriel Barnes; and her sister, Jenny Monroe (Buddy) of Lebanon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward “Chink” Wagner and Billie Jean (Penrose) Wagner; brother, Charles E. “Chink” Wagner II; sister, Judy Peters; stepchildren, Angela Wills and Michael Bryan; and by her first husband, Charles Douglas “Chuck” Barnes on January 17, 2001. She and Chuck were married on October 9, 1965.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Rock Prairie Church, 421 N. Ash St. (State Road 19), Tipton. Burial will follow at Spencer Cemetery in Sheridan. Pastor Mike Nafziger will be officiating. Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Rock Prairie Church in Tipton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be presented to Rock Prairie Church.
