Support prevention of youth abuse at Rise Up For Kids Breakfast

The Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide (ICPYAS) announces that it will welcome Erin Merryn as the keynote speaker for the April 22 Rise Up For Kids Breakfast. Merryn is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and will share her story of overcoming this abuse and empowerment she gained.

“We are certainly excited to welcome Erin to Central Indiana and hear her tell her story. As an advocate and a voice for children, she has been influential in the passing of Erin’s Law across the country,” said Maggie Owens, Director of Education and Community Relations at ICPYAS.

Erin’s Law requires that all students in grades K-12 receive Child Abuse Prevention Education yearly in our schools. ICPYAS offers Child Lures and Teen Lures programming to schools across Indiana in order to offer this evidence based, mandated education.

This year is the 10th educational breakfast hosted by the organization (formerly known as Chaucie’s Place). This event supports the organization’s youth abuse and suicide programs in Central Indiana as well as providing an opportunity to network and hear more about how the organization’s programs impact local communities.

“We have our breakfast annually in April because it is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness month, and by gathering people to learn about prevention education and the positive outcomes it has on a community is so rewarding,” said Owens. “The objective of the event is to raise awareness and funds to further our mission to end youth abuse and suicide in Indiana.”
