Strong defense leads Tigers to victory

Fishers had another strong defensive night and Katie Burton made some history when the Class 4A No. 6 Tigers traveled to Pendleton Heights on Thursday, where they beat the Arabians 55-43.
This marked the fifth consecutive game where Fishers has held an opponent to under 45 points. The Tigers got off to a good start, leading 21-9 after the first quarter. Pendleton Heights made a comeback in the second period, scoring 20 points and getting within 33-29 by halftime.
But Fishers ramped up its defense in the second half, only allowing the Arabians 14 points, seven in each quarter. The Tigers scored 15 points in the third period to take control of the game.
Burton scored 33 points and reached the 1,000 point level during the game’s third period. The senior St. John’s University commit is the third Fishers player to reach that mark, following Brooke Sugg and Kara Gerka.
Olivia Smith led the rebounding with nine, followed by Hailey Smith with seven and Burton with five. Hailey Smith also had four assists and four steals, while Audra Emmerson handed out four assists.
The Tigers are 10-1 for the season. Fishers plays again Monday at Frankton, the No. 2 team in Class 2A.
