Steven Allan McLean

April 28, 1958 – September 21, 2024

Steven Allan McLean sadly passed unexpectedly on September 21, 2024, at the age of 66 at his home in Dallas, Ga.

Steve was born on April 28, 1958 in McCordsville, Ind., to David and Betty (Owen) McLean, who preceded him in death. He grew up in McCordsville as one of eight children and is survived by Nancy, Larry, Sandra, and Gary, and preceded in death by David, Ron, and Mike.

Steve graduated in 1976 from Hamilton Southeastern where he was a passionate athlete in football, wrestling, and track. He then attended Indiana Central majoring in business and physical education while playing football.

In 1979, he married Cheryl Pavy and welcomed two daughters, Aimee (Alexander) Jacobs and Alyssa (Matthew) Yanson. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Declan and Annalise Jacobs, Isaiah, Raelynn, Ryleigh, Fisher, Finleigh, and Archer Yanson, as well as numerous foster grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Memac” by the children, he cherished spending time with them whether it was through playful antics, bouncing babies, giving piggy back rides, or playing horsey.

Following his college years, Steve dedicated himself to teaching and coaching football and track at Maconaquah, Cascade, and Hamilton Southeastern high schools.

He later transitioned to a career in Human Resources before finding his calling as a recruiter for engineers, combining his love of helping people with his talent for connection.

Steve and Cheryl divorced in 2017. Steve found love again and remarried Kim (Wineinger) McLean in May 2024 with whom he shared a home in Dallas, Ga.

Steve was goofy and a kid at heart. He loved children and could coax a giggle from even the fussiest, grumpiest child. He was also an avid gardener and had transformed his yard into a lush, tranquil outdoor oasis with innumerable hummingbirds, songbirds and bunnies. It was where he was most at peace. His diligent work ethic was evident in both his career and daily life. He always had an ongoing project and was always eager to help out others with their projects as well. He could fix anything!

Steve will be remembered as a loving, joyful, playful, hardworking young soul with an infectious laugh. His absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, from the chapel of Bellamy Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Bellamy officiating. Livestream will be available. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2.
