Steiner, Greenamoyer’s 3-pointers lead ‘Blazers past TPCA

Univeristy rode the three point shooting of Quinn Steiner and Max Greenamoyer to a 67-47 win over Traders Point Christian Academy in a Friday night battle of state ranked Class 1A teams at The U Center.
Steiner and Greenamoyer each made 5 of 8 three-pointers as the third-ranked Trailblazers shot 62 percent on three pointers in taking down the 11th-ranked Knights.  Joe Martin had two triples and Nate Shatkowski added one as University made 13 three-pointers on the night.
The Trailblazers never trailed in the game and raced to an early 14-4 lead behind two Greenamoyer triples and five points from Martin.  Traders Point closed to within 16-13 before Steiner came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers in a 30-second span to push the lead back to nine at 22-13.  The Knights hit a deep 3 but Shatkowski made a triple, Sam Mervis scored on a driving layup and Steiner hit another 3 with four seconds left.  Alexander Terrell hit a 35 footer at the buzzer for Traders Point as University led 30-19 at the break.
University led by double digits throughout the second half, leading 51-33 at the end of the third quarter.  The Blazers led by 21 early in the fourth quarter off a left corner three by Steiner that followed a tremendous ball rotation by University as all five players on the floor touched the ball as it moved quickly around the perimeter.   The Knights staged a brief rally to get within 15, but Steiner and then Greenamoyer hit their final 3s of the night and University coasted home.
“I was really happy with Quinn Steiner’s play tonight.  He did a great job off the bench” said University coach Brandon Lafferman.  “Our team defense tonight was really good.”
Greenamoyer finished with 17 points, Steiner 15 and Martin 14 as University improved to 8-1.  The Blazers committed just three turnovers and finished with 15 assists on 24 made field goals.  Mervis had team highs in assists (seven) and steals (three).  Camden Brown had five rebounds.
Alkiah Caldwell led the 4-3 Knights with 18 points.  Terrell had 12 and Derek Mount 11.
University is next in action tonight when they travel to the Indiana Math & Science Academy to take on the 1-3 Knights.  Tipoff is at 6 p.m. as there is no junior varsity game.
