State Representative Dr. Victoria Garcia Wilburn’s (D-Fishers) campaign had shared that the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Indiana Professional Fire Fighters Political Action Committee have both endorsed her for re-election to represent House District 32 in 2024.
“This is an honor that hits close to home for me,” Garcia Wilburn said. “We are a police family, my husband serving bravely for 13 years, so I have an intimate understanding of the work our public safety professionals do to keep our communities safe. Their endorsements are so important to me because it means they know I have their back.”
In her first term as a legislator, Garcia Wilburn focused on legislation for the first responder community with the passage of HB 1321, which established minimum standards for annual in-service training that addresses the mental health and wellness of public safety professionals and has since become a model for public safety nationwide. Her work was shared in the country’s largest law enforcement magazine, PoliceOne (Indiana launches comprehensive wellness program for law enforcement) and was described as a “groundbreaking move to transform the culture of law enforcement.”
“I have been incredibly privileged to work on many issues important to Hoosiers, but passing HB 1321 to support the mental health of first responders throughout the state remains one of my proudest accomplishments,” Garcia Wilburn said. “Supporting our police, fire, EMS, and other first responders is a critical issue to me and something I will continue to work on when re-elected.”
William Owensby, President of the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, worked closely with State Rep. Garcia Wilburn on her legislation for first responders.
“Seldom do we find a candidate of her caliber who has the leadership and integrity to carry out the duties as State Representative, District 32, for the great State of Indiana,” Owensby said. “Her support and commitment to Indiana Law Enforcement has not gone unnoticed.”
