The Westfield wrestling team won the team championship at the Henry Wilk Invitational Saturday at Penn.
The Shamrocks got going with a win over No. 10-ranked Penn, 44-22. Westfield then beat Merrillville 54-12, edged out Zionsville 39-30 and dominated Huntington north 60-9. In their final round, the Shamrocks beat No. 12 Mishawaka in a back-and-forth dual by the score of 36-28.
Junior Braxton Vest (at 120 pounds) and senior Dakota Arvin (at 220) both went 5-0 for the tournament, while seniors Dylan Driver (113) and Ian Watson (145) were each 4-0. Four more wrestlers finished the event 4-1: Thadeus O’Neill (126), Jason Rooney (152), Austin McClure (170) and Gabe Arvin (195).
HSE swimming hosts Forum CU Holiday Splash
The Hamilton Southeastern swim teams hosted their annual Forum CU Holiday Splash on Saturday.
The Royals girls team placed second with 662 points, just behind Homestead’s first-place total of 703. Molly Pedersen led the way with two wins. Pedersen took the 200 freestyle in a new meet record of 1:52.16, and won the 500 free as well. Kennedy Fisher won the breaststroke in 1:05.79.
In the boys meet, the Royals placed third with 543 points. Senior Keegan Streett had two individual victories. First, he triumphed in the 200 free (1:40.16), then cruised to a win in the 100 free in 45.43, well ahead of the old meet record of 46.68.
The 200 free relay team of Streett, Charlie Rogers, Justin Voelker and Thomas Reising won that event in 1:27.36. Jack Bisesi placed second in the diving with 314.40 points.
Southeastern hosts Carmel on Tuesday.
