Spartz ready after her election to Congress

It has been a whirlwind five weeks since Election Day, and the more time I’ve had to reflect, the more humbling it is to have been elected by my fellow Hoosiers to represent them in the People’s House.

It’s a great honor and important responsibility that I take very seriously, and I am working hard every day to learn about the processes of the House of Representatives, build relationships with my freshmen colleagues from both parties, and assemble a strong team so that I can have a positive impact beginning on day one. From helping Hoosiers navigate the bureaucratic maze of the federal government to contributing to serious policies that make the daily lives of Hoosiers’ better, I assure you that I am prepared to advocate for you and the people of Indiana’s 5th Congressional District.

Congressional orientation

I spent the better part of the last few weeks in Washington for freshman orientation or attending virtual meetings from Indiana. Having served in the State Senate, I have a head start on understanding the legislative process, but there is still much more to tackle from the basics of setting up an office, to building a staff, to advocating for committee assignments and to studying key areas of federal policy and important issues that Congress will take up next year.

I have had the opportunity to get to know many of my freshman colleagues, and I am impressed by their commitment to changing Washington, by their diverse experiences and most importantly, by their love for our country and commitment to stopping extremism and socialist policies so that we can solve problems and improve the lives of all Americans. I am particularly pleased to join more than fifteen Republican women in the freshman class, and the most diverse class of Republicans in history – demonstrating that the Republican Party is indeed a big tent party with a place for everyone who believes in freedom, prosperity and the rule of law.

Transition

I want to share a brief update on our transition efforts. Our transition team will be announcing some senior hires in my office soon, but we are still accepting resumes for multiple positions in Washington, D.C. and our district. Hoosiers interested in being considered should send a resume and cover letter to resumes@spartzforcongress.com.

I was recently assigned an office in the Longworth House Office Building in Washington, D.C. that will open in January. I will maintain Rep. Brooks’ office in Carmel in the short term and continue to look for a new location in Madison County, as well as potential additional district offices.

In the news

This week I joined 25 of my freshman colleagues in writing a letter to Speaker Pelosi calling on the House of Representatives to investigate voting irregularities, machine issues and absentee ballot signature verification requirements being ignored. For the health of our democracy, it is critical that these issues be addressed to ensure all Americans have faith in the integrity of future elections.

Last week I sat down with Fox News to talk about the importance of newly elected Republicans who’ve experienced the misery and poverty of socialism firsthand sharing their stories with the American people – particularly younger Americans – to combat the destructive, utopic ideas of socialists in Congress.

I also joined Hugh Hewitt’s radio show to talk about the incoming freshman class and the importance of Georgia’s Senate runoff races. It’s a choice between freedom and government control, and the Senate will determine which way we go for the next two years.

Farewell to Rep. Susan Brooks

Congresswoman Susan Brooks delivered her farewell address in the House of Representatives last week. You can watch it here. I want to thank Rep. Brooks for her service to our party and our country. It will be an honor to succeed her in serving the people of Indiana’s 5th District. I also want to thank Susan for her friendship and her support during my campaign and this transition.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays

Last week, my husband Jason and I had the honor of attending the White House Christmas party. Thank you to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for having us. The First Lady did a wonderful job decorating the White House for Christmas.

I hope you and your family are staying healthy and safe, and having a joyous Christmas season and Happy Hanukkah.
