The Hamilton Southeastern swim team scored a sweep at Franklin Central on Thursday.
The Royals girls won 116-70. It was the first time HSE had ever swam at the Flashes’ pool, as FC is new to the Hoosier Crossroads Conference this year. Southeastern coach Andy Pedersen said that “the school is beautiful with a very nice natatorium. The Flashes swam tough and gave our team plenty of trouble with great competition.”
Abby Harter won the butterfly race and also anchored a relay win. Mo Pedersen was the 200 freestyle winner, while Kayleigh Witt came from behind to win the 500 free. Olivia Harter won the backstroke and battled Ellie Pedersen in the 500 free. Senior Halli Siwik won the diving event in a season-high score.
“Our Team Captains for this meet may provide the best example of how our team needs to behave in order to reach the goals they have set – Bri Saple and DaBin Jung are absolutely destroying the workouts we place in front of them and we are starting to see that show up in the meets,” said Pedersen. “It does not really matter where we put them in the lineup, they are going to approach those races with a mindset of toughness and determination. We are really proud of both of them.”
The Royals boys team won 119-66. A couple of Southeastern swimmers competed in off events, and won: Connor Harrison was first in the 200 free, cruising home with what Pedersen said was “an amazing last 50.” Keegan Streett placed first in the individual medley, another off-event swim.
DJ Rogers placed first in the 50 free, while Nathan Barr won diving. Marcus Eden won the 500 free and Andrew Truxall paced the breaststroke.
“It was truly a team effort but we cannot end this post without noting the progression of sophomore Logan Hess – he has been working hard for sure but this is an experienced and older team with very few spots open to the youngsters,” said Pedersen. “That is not the way Logan approaches things – he works hard, views any event as an opportunity to improve, and competes with grit and an incredibly positive mindset. Logan is a huge part of the future of this team.”
Southeastern will host Brownsburg in an early Saturday morning meet. Swimming begins at 9 a.m., after an open house for HSE alumna Lindsay Rogers, who is being inducted into the Indiana Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. The open house starts at 8 a.m.
