The Hamilton Southeastern girls track and field team defended its home turf on Tuesday by winning the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet.
The Royals scored 131 points, pulling away from what had a tight battle with rival Fishers in the early stages of the meet. The Tigers were second with 105 points.
Southeastern coach Julie Alano said that her team was trying some different things, as the Royals prepare for the sectional, which they will enter as defending state champions.
“We’re just trying to figure some things out for the tournament and make sure we’re ready to go there,” said coach Julie Alano. “But we also like to win the conference meet. It helps with the school and the overall trophy, the all-sports trophy, so we also like to win this meet for the school.”
Southeastern got individual victories from Regan Wans in the 400 dash, Lulu Black in the 3200 run, and the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
The Tigers picked up two victories, both from Ella Scally. The freshman was first in the 100 dash and set a new meet record in the long jump of 18 feet, 5.75 inches. Southeastern’s Tierra Sydnor was second at 18 feet, 2.25 inches, also under the old record.
Noblesville finished fifth as a team, winning three events. Shelby Tyler was first in the high jump and pole vault, and the Millers also took the 4×800 relay. Noblesville’s time of 9:27.76 is currently the best in the state.
Westfield finished sixth. Zoe Pentecost won the shot put and placed second in the discus.
