Southeastern boys fall at Homestead Tournament, Sheridan girls finish third at Alexandria Tournament

The Hamilton Southeastern boys basketball team dropped its final two games at the Homestead Tournament on Thursday.

In its last pool game, the Royals fell to the host Spartans 67-45. Homestead led 31-20 at halftime, then outscored the Royals 15-4 in the third quarter to take further control of the game.

Reph Stevenson scored 15 points, pulled eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Eli Robinson collected five rebounds and Deion Miles dished out four assists. Donovan Hamilton and Braeden Totten both scored eight points, followed by six for Joe Karwowski, five for Myles Holman and three points for Miles.

Southeastern dropped its placement game to Valparaiso 49-45. Stats for that game were unavailable at press time.

The Royals are 4-6 and host Lawrence Central on Friday.

Sheridan’s girls basketball team finished third at the Alexandria Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.

In their semi-final game, the Blackhawks fell to Seeger 46-44. Sheridan led 11-8 after one quarter, but the Patriots came back to lead 19-17 at halftime, then went up 32-28 after three periods. The Hawks came back in the fourth quarter, but Seeger held on for the win.

Kenzie Garner led Sheridan with 22 points. Also scoring were Lilly Chesney with seven points, Jacquellynne Bates with six, Ashley Webel with five, and two points each from Chaney Smith and Shelby Eaton. Garner had 11 rebounds for a double-double and also made five steals. Chesney had four rebounds and four steals.

The Blackhawks cruised past Tri-Central 54-32 to win the third-place game. Garner had another dominant game, with 26 points and 13 rebounds for a second double-double at the tournament. Smith added 10 points. Webel and Bates both scored five, with Chesney and Eaton both adding four points. Bates also had four rebounds and four assists, with Garner dishing out five assists.

Sheridan is 6-8 and hosts Crawfordsville on Tuesday.
