On April 17, Sand Creek Elementary School, 11420 E. 131st St., Fishers, will hold a Solar Day where neighbors and community members can see the solar installation, find out more about going solar, and learn how much money clean energy is saving Hamilton Southeastern Schools.
The event starts at 10 a.m., with the solar cooker contest kicking off at noon. Solar tours will operate continuously, with solar talks at the top of each hour. Solar Day will conclude at 1 p.m.
The event also will include a Solar Oven Design Challenge, where students are invited to make their own solar ovens and showcase them in the parking lot. Boy and Girl Scouts will be eligible to earn a SUN Patch for participating. Those interested in attending can click here to register.
HSE Schools flipped the switch on two solar arrays in 2019. The 4,800 panels power three of HSE’s schools – Sand Creek Elementary, Sand Creek Intermediate, and HSE Intermediate and Junior High – and are expected to save $300,000 per year in utility costs.
The event will promote the relaunch of the Hamilton County Solar Co-op through Solar United Neighbors and Solarize Hamilton County. The co-op is free to join and open to homeowners and business owners in Hamilton County. Together, co-op members learn about solar energy and leverage their numbers to purchase individual solar systems at a competitive price and top quality.
