The Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District (HCSWCD) is now accepting submissions for the ninth annual Photography Contest from amateur photographers throughout Hamilton County.

This year the theme supports the Hamilton County Bicentennial with the title being “A Look Into Biodiversity This Bicentennial.” HCSWCD will accept photographs in both the youth and adult age categories with each photographer being allowed to submit up to five entries.

Biodiversity is a term which describes every living organism within a single ecosystem or habitat, including plants, bacteria, animals, fungi, and humans. HCSWCD is looking for photos that exhibit and/or promote the rich level of biodiversity Hamilton County has and has had over the last 200 years.

Here are some guidelines for photographers to follow when submitted entries:

  • Photos with two or more species present
  • Local habitats that are protected
  • Healthy rivers, lakes, streams, etc.
  • Positive environmental practices, such as planting of native or rain gardens or conservation efforts

Digital files and entry forms must be submitted by 10 a.m. on Monday, June 26. Remember to add a descriptive caption to each entry portraying how the photo relates to this year’s theme.

A panel of judges will choose two winners in each category to be honored and receive a cash prize. Once again, this year, People’s Choice Award winners in each of the categories will receive a $50 prize; voting will take place on Facebook. Photo entries and winners will be showcased at the Hamilton County 4-H Fair from July 20 to 24 at the HCSWCD booth.

Additional information and entry forms are located at hamiltonswcd.org/photo-contest. Email soil.water@hamiltoncounty.in.gov or call (317) 773-2181 with questions.
