Softball: With five homers, Royals power past Yorktown

Hamilton Southeastern followed up its 15-14 Thursday win over Ben Davis by blasting Yorktown 7-3 in a Friday road game.
The Royals hit three home runs in the first inning. Lani Wyrick led off with a solo homer. Taylor Larson drew a walk, then was sent home by Jenna Chase’s left field home run. Payton Fox then stepped up and cracked another homer into left field.
Southeastern added a run in the fourth inning when Larson singled in Emma Vance. The Royals went over the fence for their next two runs: Morgan Hicks smacked a left field homer in the fifth inning, then Fox connected on her second home run of the game in the seventh inning, giving Southeastern five homers for the game.
Tori Donato picked up her second pitching victory in as many days, striking out four.
The Royals finished the regular season 15-10.

Carmel dropped a 7-4 game to Greenfield-Central Thursday at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds got on the board in the sixth inning when Elsa Morrison hit a three-run home run, also scoring Sophie Esposito and Ella Ohrvall. Esposito singled in Audrey Hussain in the seventh inning.
Carmel finished the regular season 14-9.

Westfield swept past McCutcheon 12-5 in a Thursday road game.
Avery Parker got the Shamrocks on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run. Parker smacked another home run in the seventh inning; Allie Dolenc followed that up with a single, then Sam Breaux hit a homer to score two runs.
Breaux and Dollenc both had three hits, with Breaux totaling five RBIs. Parker scored four runs. Chloe Tanner got the win.
Westfield finished the regular season 15-9.
