Softball: Westfield & Fishers get conference wins

The Westfield softball team picked up a Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Zionsville Tuesday, 3-0.

The Shamrocks scored two runs in the third inning on a double by Ava Kainrath that sent Makayla Watson and Maggie Roh home. Westfield added its third run in the fourth inning; Grace Feltz brought in Annika Lawrence with an RBI groundout.

Chloe Tanner also had a hit for Westfield; both teams totaled three hits for the game. Tanner got the pitching win, striking out 11 and walking two.

The ‘Rocks are 3-2 in conference play and 9-8 overall. Westfield’s next game is Thursday at Center Grove.

Fishers was also an HCC winner on Tuesday, beating Avon 4-2 in an away game.

The Orioles scored both of their runs in the second inning. The Tigers got their first run in the third inning, when Sophie Schoch batted in Taylor Duplessis with a center field hit.

Fishers tied the game in the sixth inning after Kate Murray sent a home run over the center field fence. The Tigers pulled ahead in the seventh inning. Duplessis got on base with a double, then was brought home by Hailey Trueblood’s center field hit for the go-ahead run. Trueblood scored seconds later on a single by Brooke Johnson.

Trueblood was 3-for-4 at the plate. Murray pitched a complete game, striking out six.

Fishers is 3-1 in the HCC and 8-4 overall. The Tigers are back home this afternoon, hosting Bishop Chatard.

Sheridan dropped a Hoosier Heartland Conference game to Rossville 17-0 in five innings on Tuesday.

Mariana Lopez and Claire Purciful both had base hits for the Blackhawks.

Sheridan is 1-14 and hosts Carroll this afternoon for another HHC game.
