Softball: Tigers win big on Monday, hold off comeback on Tuesday

Fishers picked up two wins in dramatically different fashion this week.
On Monday, Fishers overwhelmed Lawrence North 21-6 in five innings. The Tigers were unstoppable at the plate, hitting four home runs as a team. Hannah Mays homered twice, with Courtney James and Olivia Latimer each smacking one home run.
Fishers also pounded out nine doubles, including two each from James, Kaylee Kardash and Olivia Latimer. Jisele Ebanks pitched three innings for the win.
On Tuesday, the Tigers held off a comeback by Westfield to win 7-6 in an all-county and Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
Fishers scored six runs in the second inning. Caroline Bernhardt singled in Abbey Schmidt, then Mara Lorkowski drew a bases-loaded walk to send Olivia Latimer home. Courtney James had a two-RBI hit to send Bernhardt and Kaylee Kardash home, then Hannah Mays popped a two-RBI single into center field to score Lorkowski and James.
The Shamrocks got on the board in the third inning when Avery Parker singled in Reghan Oland. Mays hit a fourth-inning single to score Brooke Benson.
Westfield began to rally in earnest in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Parker doubled Caroline Maymon home, then Savannah Arvin’s center field hit scored Parker. Natalie Deck was next, and she doubled in Arvin. Zoe Klink cut Fishers’ lead to one run in the sixth inning with a two-run homer, also scoring Lexi Martin. But that would be as close as the Shamrocks would get.
Mays, Jade Frye and Bernhardt all had two hits, with Kardash hitting a double. Mays pitched the complete game for the win. Parker and Deck each had two hits.
The Tigers are 7-2 and play at Yorktown on Thursday. Westfield is 2-8 and travels to Lebanon on Friday.
